Research Interests
My research interests focus on the measurement of the overall stress response in relation to various environmental xenobiotic exposure regimes within aquatic biomarker sentinel species,
including the common killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus). End point analyses include induction and modulation of metallothionein mRNA in killifish following exposure to such variables as
temperature change, starvation and cadmium, and the relationship between phthalate exposure and altered fish social behaviors. Towards this goal, in learning to appreciate the whole organism and contributing towards a more comprehensive explanation to determine how exposure to ubiquitous chemicals, including heavy metals and plasticizers, potentially disrupts behavior and molecular homeostasis in teleosts.
