Nichols , a Rising Senior majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology, is performing research at UConn Health this summer by using a mouse model to identify the types of sound stimuli that are more likely to induce tinnitus, a medical condition characterized by the perception of a sound that is not really there. Horseshoe Crabs – The Fortunate Ones?

The horseshoe crab has persisted, unchanged, for hundreds of millions of years. But now, its survival is threatened by the harvesting of its prized baby-blue blood. A team at UConn seeks to map its DNA and save it from extinction.  Dr. O’Neill, graduate student Kate Castellano and colleagues are mapping a full assembly of the horseshoe crab’s DNA. (more…)

Bryce Santinello Receives Spring Graduate Travel Award

2019 MCB Commencement Reception and Awards

The 2019 UConn College of Liberal Arts and Sciences undergraduate graduation took place at Gampel Pavilion on Sunday, May 12.

Following commencement, the Molecular and Cell Biology Department hosted the annual reception for graduating seniors in biology.

Awards were given out to students in the 4 areas of concentration. Dr. Michael Lynes, head of MCB handed out awards to Brian Aguilera and Jennifer Messina for Outstanding Senior in MCB. Kevin Lee and Tony Patelunas each received an award for Outstanding TA award.
