Dear Future MCB Student,

It’s a great pleasure to welcome you to the University of Connecticut and the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology! This is an exciting moment to embark on a career in the life sciences, and MCB is at the forefront of discovery and innovation. Our department includes 28 research-active faculty and more than 120 graduate students working across a broad spectrum of research themes—from computational modeling of protein structure to the study of population dynamics and their evolutionary outcomes. This breadth ensures that you will have opportunities to develop a strong foundation and pursue the career path that inspires you.

As a department, we take pride in the personal mentoring our graduate students receive. Students benefit from close, one-on-one guidance as they develop expertise in their chosen fields and gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art technologies, including next-generation sequencing, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, NMR spectroscopy, X‑ray diffraction, and bioinformatics. Our students are encouraged to present their work at national and international conferences and receive individualized support regarding career development and job placement. They also benefit from our professional development programs and from the vibrant, student-led organization GO:MCB, which plays a central role in building community and supporting graduate life.

MCB alumni are highly successful leaders in research, education, government, and industry. We are committed to providing you with the tools, training, and opportunities needed to launch a rewarding and fulfilling career. In short, MCB is a great place to learn, grow, and make scientific discoveries that matter.

During your visit, you will have the chance to meet our faculty and students, tour our facilities, and explore the many opportunities our graduate program offers. I look forward to meeting you and hope to welcome you back in the fall!

Sincerely,

Adam Zweifach signature
