The Campus |
We have a beautiful campus, a vibrant population of undergraduate and graduate students, and plenty of opportunities for fun outside of the lab. The UConn campus has been repeatedly ranked among the top green campuses in the US for our focus on recycling and sustainability. UConn's athletic teams are outstanding, especially the Men's and Women's Basketball teams – the men holding four NCAA championships and the women winning a record 11 NCAA championships. Everyone should experience a basketball game at Gampel Pavilion at least once. We also have entertaining Ice Hockey, Soccer, and Field Hockey teams. In addition, our Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts attracts quality performers and speakers, including Hillary Clinton, Professor Richard Dawkins, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and comedian Billy Gardell. The UConn Forest is a protected area that borders the campus with enjoyable hiking and fishing trails near the Fenton River. Whether it is a picnic in the spring, horseback riding in the fall, or pond hockey in the winter, our campus provides a terrific environment for fun and entertainment that we encourage you to explore! |
The Town |
Storrs is a great place to live and work. Crime rates are low, and education levels are high. While some students walk or bike to work, many drive. Some of our grad students live directly in Storrs/Mansfield, and take advantage of the newly built Storrs Center, with restaurants, shops, and a grocery store. Overall, Storrs provides a rich atmosphere for academics, but we also actively engage with many of our state's other top institutions: the UConn Health Center, the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, Yale University, Wesleyan University, Quinnipiac University, Fairfield University, Connecticut College, Trinity College, and many others |
The State |
Storrs is a quiet community, but for those who like more action, Connecticut still has plenty to offer. A variety of concerts/events/shows are held at the downtown Hartford XL Center, Bushnell Performing Arts Center, Infinity Music Hall and Bistro, Connecticut Convention Center, or Connecticut Science Center. Southeastern Connecticut is home to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. In addition to their gambling and dining options, these resorts hold many popular concerts/events/shows. |
