The MCB Department has a new Seahorse XFp extracellular flux analyzer

The Seahorse Bioscience XFp Instrument (Agilent Technologies) is used for the analysis of cellular metabolism and energy utilization (i.e., the “energy phenotype”) of cell samples. This technology allows researchers to connect physiological traits of cells with genomic and proteomic data to give significant insights into pathological states (cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disease). Moreover, the instrument allows for the injection of up to four different additives (e.g., drugs, inhibitors, substrates) during a single experiment to analyze their effects on energy utilization. The Seahorse analyzer has broad applicability to a wide range disciplines (e.g., cell physiology, immunology, stem cell biology, toxicology, translational medicine). The instrument, incubator, and all consumables are located in BPB 219; feel free to contact Nathan Alder for further details. More information on this instrument can be found on the Seahorse Bioscience website.
